I like femlock. The concept is fascinating to me, in a wibbly wobbly alternate universe sort of way, and I’ve always, ALWAYS seen it as a completely swapped parallel. Mr. Hudson and his girls, the older Holmes sister just as irritated and pissy over the subject of weight, Moriarty being just as ruthlessly clever in a well-fitted pantsuit who sounds so sweet over the phone, Adler being a dashing young man who knows what other people like, etc.

Despite that, it’s so fucking weird when one character is swapped, usually Sherlock, for the obviously dull and Mary-Sueish idea of getting her to just bend over and let all the men, usually Jim or John, stick his dick in her and lol pregnant omg yay.

I don’t understand. No matter the gender, Sherlock never uses his or her sexuality as a tool. It simply doesn’t register— and this is coming from someone who still roleplays incredibly illicit things.

I really like het pairings (MolStrade is my bby). I like slash ones, too, but when things get swapped around just to make one of them into a slutty woman, I want to burn everything.

I always considered the most interesting part of genderbending to be the concept of re-imagining your characters the way they would be treated and would act as a member of the opposite gender. Remember how in The Great Game Sherlock and John started right off by calling Moriarty a “he”? Or how Kris Riley ambushing Sherlock in the women’s toilets and attempting to seduce her in exactly the same way would have been perceived as not just creepy, but threatening? how Irene was The Woman, and how incredibly different it would have been if a man had been defeated for having sentiment and had to be saved from having his head chopped off by terrorists by a woman?

The total-genderswap parallel idea has always disturbed me because it usually completely disregards sexism, gender roles, and everything else that would make a genderswap anything more than an excuse to switch bodies/write lesbian pairings. Now i’m not saying there’s anything wrong with that, I just don’t see how you can possibly say that changing only one character’s gender and writing them as being in a heterosexual relationship is “Mary-Sueish”.

I agree that Sherlock would never use his/her sexuality as a tool, and doesn’t it drive you mad how many people disregard his obvious asexuality to get him to just bend over and let all the men, usually Jim or John, stick his dick in him and lol buttsex omg yay?

How is writing a character as a “slutty” heterosexual woman worse than writing them as a “slutty” homosexual man?
